For 30 years, the Tempermill has catered to the musically left-of-center in the true independent/ alternative spirit, with stacks of major-label projects and over a thousand indie releases.

A spacious 3000-sq.-ft. facility situated in picturesque Ferndale, Michigan, the Tempermill is an amalgamation of great acoustics, inspired professional engineering, and convenient, laid-back environs. The whole place was designed for making records, with a live end/dead end recording space and plenty of isolation booths for tracking large projects, an extra-large control room big enough for the whole band to comfortably and accurately listen, and a lounge/kitchen to make you feel at home with cutting-edge video games like Tetris and NHL '94. We also have a dedicated mastering suite to put the finishing touches on your digital CD, vinyl LP or whatever next generation format that installs directly into your brain via your USB-9 earlobe port.

The studio combines the latest and greatest ProTools|HD3 digital recording, editing & mixing with a 2" 24-track tape machine and the most desirable vintage & distinctive high-end analog gear. We've made some serious upgrades to our mid-70's Harrison 3232 recording console, and it has one of the most sought-after Mic-Pre, EQ and analog summing sections around.

But we're accommodating even if you'd prefer to do it in stages. Say you want a great live drum sound, you'd come in for the generous tracking room, the robust mic closet and experienced engineers. Overdubs? How about a Yamaha C7 concert grand piano, Hammond B3, over 40 different guitars, amps & keyboards and a classic Telefunken U47 tube microphone. We're compatible with all digital formats, so we can easily help you mix and master your home recording or transfer projects to and from other studios. We understand it's a quickly changing musical world out there, and we're here to help.
